Born in Massachusetts, but raised entirely in New Mexico, I've spent most of my time in the southwestern United States— with the most frequent family vacation destination being the backcountry of southeastern Utah. I never really tried to express myself until I was 15, when I first had a role in a musical in high school, and then later that year when I was handed a camera to use on a family vacation not in the usual desert frame, but instead in the rather exotic (to me) grandeur of northern Canada and Alaska. I’d also dabbled in prose writing, in poetry, and in computer-generated imagery, as well as in photography and acting, but eventually I settled on photography as the medium where I could best express myself.
Computers have been an inexorable part of my life since infancy, and I've always had a deep love for the sciences. This perhaps shaped me into the very technical person I am now. However, after a semester at New Mexico Tech I found that science wasn't really what I wanted to do with my life— so after a couple years shuffling around and earning money, I ended up purchasing a camera of my own, and within months started taking classes at the Santa Fe Community College. I finished my Associate’s degree in photography in May 2011.
Perhaps stemming from my earliest exposure to taking photographs, my passion in photography is for landscape. Lately I’ve been exploring the figure and experimental forms of portraiture as well. I’ve also found myself to be just as much at home in the studio, making my own light, as I am in the outdoors, relying on the light of the moment.
